How does QMI's Engine Treatment differ from every other treatment on the market?

PTFE Treatments - There is a Difference

QMI's unique SX-6000 chemistry produces unmatched performance

QMI's leadership as the provider of consumer and industrial PTFE treatments results from many generations of product development over decades of research and testing in all types of applications, including the most demanding industrial lubrication challenges. This commitment to advanced PTFE technology has produced treatments utilized worldwide, unmatched in any market.

Formula

Most competitive PTFE treatments consist of PTFE and "carrier" oil (sometimes containing oil additives unrelated to the PTFE treatment process that drain away at oil change, and colloidal suspension chemistry). By contrast, QMI's effectiveness is based on our unique formula SX-6000, a sophisticated blend of premium components each playing a critical role in achieving long-lasting fusion of PTFE treatment.

PTFE molecular weight - low vs. high

PTFE's molecular weight contributes to properties that establishes PTFE as the lubricant of choice for treatment. However, varying fabrication methods produce several forms of PTFE, each with properties that impact molecular weight and contribute or detract from the treatment process and durability.

Most PTFE treatments use PTFE with a comparatively low molecular weight. QMI, by contrast, utilizes PTFE with an extremely high molecular weight, many times higher than most competitive products. This high molecular weight provides more resilient PTFE with greater tensile strength, fracture resistance and elongation capabilities. The result is QMI's tough, long lasting PTFE treatment.

Particle size

The variety of fabrication methods also produce PTFE in a wide range of particle sizes. The micro powder PTFE typically utilized by treatment manufacturers range in size from 2 to 10 microns. QMI's PTFE utilizes a fabrication technique that produces the smallest PTFE available, from 0.05 to 0.5 micron, permitting greater penetration of micro asperities on friction surfaces.

Automotive oil filters typically begin to remove particles at 10 to 40 microns. Therefore, QMI's PTFE is not removed by automotive oil filters. Southwest Research Institute tested QMI through a 0.8 micron filter membrane and concluded, "There were no problems in filtering this material". (Test report available upon request.)

Suspending agents

In order to provide the utmost in effective PTFE treatment, QMI's SX-6000 incorporates suspending agents that prevent coagulation of our dense, high molecular weight PTFE. Negative encapsulation of the PTFE causes the particles to repel each other, avoiding coagulation in the QMI container as well as the engine and other lubrication systems. QMI's suspension is so effective that treatment of hydraulic systems with nominal-agitation reservoirs has become a valued industrial application, utilizing QMI's line of specialized industrial PTFE treatments.

Surfactants

While friction and wear prevents buildup of carbon on working surfaces, tenacious gums and varnish deposits in surface asperities pose a challenge to PTFE particle penetration and fusion. SX-6000 contains highly specialized surfactants that reduce surface tension on these pollutants and allow QMI's PTFE to penetrate asperities, producing greater potential for long lasting fusion of PTFE.

Attraction to surface metals

QMI's SX-6000 generates an affinity to metals with negative polarization, which responds to ferrous metal's positive polarity. QMI's PTFE is quickly drawn into the surface asperities, producing prompt and thorough treatment deposits, and more rapid fusion and performance response to QMI's new dimension in lubrication.

Bonding agents

QMI's SX-6000 bonding agents activate in response to the electrochemical energy generated by consistent metal-to-metal friction, assuring treatment of friction surfaces. However, the bonding agents remain passive on metal-to-fiber surfaces such as automatic transmission clutch disks and bands, or motorcycle wet clutches, so that no treatment or slippage occurs on these "grab" surfaces. Further, these metal-to-fiber (metal-to-paper) surfaces and other lubricated surfaces designed to generate friction, such as gear synchronizers and limited slip differential cones, do not experience the consistent working action needed to generate fusion and complete the treatment process, assuring that no slippage occurs when applying QMI Automatic Transmission Treatment or QMI Gear Treatment to these units.

Safe, effective and compatible

QMI's PTFE treatments have been tested in all types of industrial applications in over one hundred countries world-wide. Further, lab tests include Sequence IIIE, an extremely demanding engine lubrication test performed by Southwest Research Institute, with outstanding results. Along with significant wear reduction, QMI Engine Treatment proved safe in all categories, including viscosity increase, sludge, varnish, oil ring land deposits, cam and lifter wear, rod bearing weight loss, scuffed and worn parts, oil consumption, rings plugged, stuck or sluggish, and stuck lifters. (Test report available upon request.) QMI's PTFE treatments utilize premium carrier oils designed for each application, and our exclusive SX-6000 formula contains no chlorine, graphite, lead, silicone, molybdenum disulfide or reactive solvents. Therefore, QMI treatments do not alter the characteristics of the host lubricants and are compatible with mineral and synthetic oils, and seal and gaskets.

QMI's 100% commitment

Most PTFE treatments surface as an afterthought from additive or lubricant manufacturers seeking to "jump on the bandwagon". By contrast, QMI has always committed our total energies to advancing the cutting edge technologies that have long since produced QMI's leadership in industrial PTFE treatments. PTFE treatment is our forte, and formula development and testing that began in the mid 1970's has produced PTFE treatments now proven successful in myriad applications worldwide.

Industrial response

The industrial market's response provides ample proof of QMI's leadership in producing effective PTFE treatments, and the difference between QMI and competitive PTFE treatments. QMI's widespread success in the demanding industrial market includes all types of applications throughout more than one hundred countries. When facing the cost effective and safety standards based scrutiny of mechanical, chemical and lubrication engineers in heavy industry, QMI is the product of choice.

Product support

QMI rises above the competition in product support as well. QMI Technical Service's "Advanced Lubrication Technologies" school is widely recognized as "one of the best in industry", featuring animated presentations of the state of the art in PTFE treatment and related technologies and supported by live demonstrations in our fully equipped testing facility.
